چکیده
Cover crops (CC) provide numerous ecosystem services such as improving soil health, reducing nutrient loss, increasing productivity, and mitigating greenhouse gas emission. However, adoption of CC has been hindered by perceived negative impacts on main crop productivity additional production costs. This is partly attributed to the gap in current state knowledge its interaction with under different biophysical conditions. In this study, Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer model was used evaluate long-term impact cereal rye (Secale cereale L.) corn (Zea mays yield, organic carbon (SOC), nitrate leaching, water, drainage a range climate, soil, irrigation management Eastern Central Nebraska. Integrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency and greenhouse gas emission in wheat-corn cropping system
Wheat-corn cropping system is one of the most important grain production systems in theworld. However, the integrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency (NUE)and greenhouse gases (GHGS) emissions are not well documented in this system. Thus, a twoyear field experiment was carried out in a typical wheat-corn cropping system with four tillageregimes during the wheat season, ...

Impacts of gypsum and winter cover crops on soil physical properties and crop productivity when irrigated with saline water
Reuse of saline subsurface drainage water for irrigation has been identi®ed as a potential option for managing drainage volumes and sustaining crop productivity in California's San Joaquin Valley. Soil surface structural instability, crusting and poor stand establishment may, however, be constraints in drainage reuse systems. The objective of this ®eld study was to evaluate the effectiveness of...
متن کاملCover cropping to reduce nitrate loss through subsurface drainage in the northern U.S. corn belt.
Despite the use of best management practices for nitrogen (N) application rate and timing, significant losses of nitrate nitrogen (NO3(-)-N) in drainage discharge continue to occur from row crop cropping systems. Our objective was to determine whether a autumn-seeded winter rye (Secale cereale L.) cover crop following corn (Zea mays L.) would reduce NO3(-)-N losses through subsurface tile drain...
متن کاملCover crop root contributions to soil carbon in a no-till corn bioenergy cropping system
Crop residues are potential biofuel feedstocks, but residue removal may reduce soil carbon (C). The inclusion of a cover crop in a corn bioenergy system could provide additional biomass, mitigating the negative effects of residue removal by adding to stable soil C pools. In a no-till continuous corn bioenergy system in the northern US Corn Belt, we used CO2 pulse labeling to trace plant C from ...
